Hildegard House

is located at 114 Adams Street in a quaint section of the historic Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, Kentucky. Our home was once the Ursuline convent for the sisters that taught at St. Joseph School.

KENTUCKY'S FIRST AND ONLY COMFORT CARE HOME

We provide a home that is full of compassion, companionship, peace and dignity where individuals can spend their final stage of life.  Our goal is to provide hospitality to people at the end of life who have no loved ones or home.

Providing a compassionate home and care at the end of life to individuals who have no home or loved ones to care for them so that they may die with dignity.

Our

Values

We believe every dying individual should have as much relief from pain  as possible.

We believe no one should have to die alone or lonely.

We believe a loving home enables death to be a part of a personal story rather than a medical event.

We believe dignity and comfort are an important part of the end of life.

We believe every person's life is sacred event to the last moment.

We believe that hospice and other organizations are valuable partners.

We believe we are a vital resoure to the community and can rely on its support.

What We Do

Hildegard House provides a home, quality end-of-life care and access to hospice services for people during the last three months of life. We are family to those who have no loved ones to care for them during this sacred time.

Hildegard House provides short-term, end-of- life care to adults of all ages. We serve people of all faiths and those of no faith. Each residnet has a hospice team.  We fill a critical gap in care without duplicating services.

We are a resource for the entire community. Our services are free as a charitable organization with a mission of compassion and hospitality.

We are a 501 (c)3 charitable organization and are funded entirely by donations. We will not bill Medicare, private insurance or individuals.

Referral Process

Our Services

We receive referrals directly from individuals, family members, hospice staff, doctors and hospitals.

To live at Hildegard House, an individual must accept hospice servies.

An individual's choice to  become a resident at Hildegard House is voluntary and there is  no obligation to stay.

For more information about  becoming a resident of HIldegard House, contact

Karen Cassidy, Executive  Director

Our Services

We are, with the help of our community and our volunteers, the only place of emotional, spiritual, and social support for a dying person who otherwise has no home or loved ones to care for them.  The  services at Hildegard House are designed to help support the quality of living throughout the dying process. We believe every moment matters and strive to provide a home setting with comfort and support while respecting the dignity of every resident.

Every resident has access to a hospice team which is composed of a nurse, a nurse’s aide, a social worker and chaplain. Meals, laundry, housekeeping and companionship are a part of the home setting at the Hildegard House.

Hildegard of Bingen, a medieval German Benedictine mystic, is the patroness of Hildegard House. She practiced hospitality, and coined the word “Viriditas”, the Divine energy, the greening power of God. She believed all life carries Divine energy. Assisting a dying person to experience a home, extended family, death with dignity and the Divine energy during the dying  process is a supreme act of hospitality.
